Production began in late 1940 at serial number 700,000, as an extension of the serial number range of the Mauser Model 1934 pistol, a much more difficult pistol to manufacture. The early pistols have well-made wooden grips, and are highly polished and richly blued. 1,000 produced, 4 digit serial: Mauser Banner Dated - produced 1936-1942 Unknown contract Caliber 9mm Parabellum - 4' barrel A few thousand produced, 1 to 5 digit serial with letter: Swedish Contract - produced 1938-1939 Military contract Caliber 7.65mm or 9mm Parabellum - 4.75' barrel.
